Draft tournaments require players to bring unopened booster packs (typically four) on top of any other entry fee.
The Drafting Process. At the start of the tournament, players draft their cards. Each player simultaneously opens one booster pack, selects one card from it, then passes the remainder to the next player. This process continues until each card has been "drafted," then repeats for the remaining booster packs in the event.
On the Draft Selection Screen, you'll see the contents of a booster pack you've opened or been passed. A timer is shown above them. You have nearly 40 seconds to select your first card. Once all players have chosen a card (or the timer has expired), the remaining cards will be passed to the next player. This procedure continues until all the cards in each pack are drafted (that's 15 picks). The time to pick your cards decreases as you have fewer choices, from nearly 40 seconds for the first card to a little under three seconds for the last card in a pack. If the timer runs out before you select a card, one will be selected for you randomly.
Left-click once on a card to pick a card. A green highlight will appear over the card, indicating you have chosen it.
At the lower right of the screen, you'll see the Passing Order. A circle of icons show the players in your tournament seated around a virtual table. An arrow indicates where the current set of booster packs is being passed, clockwise or counter-clockwise. You can mouse over a player icon to display that player's name, or refer to the user list just to the left of the Passing Order screen to see who your opponents are.
Building Your Deck. Once the Drafting process has concluded, players have 10 minutes to use the Limited Deck Builder and construct decks using the cards they drafted. Players cannot access any other cards in their collections for this kind of tournament.
Deck construction rules in Draft tournaments differ from Constructed and Sealed Deck events. The minimum deck size is 40 cards. There is no limit to the number of copies of the same card you may include in your deck.
There are four default "Karana" quests provided, one for each level of 2, 4, 5, and 6. You can use these quests to build your deck if you didn't draft enough quests while opening packs. However, each one deals 1 damage to your avatar when you play it.
You will be provided the choice of six special avatars for draft that allow you to play two archetypes in the same deck. There is one for each combination of two archetypes. You can build your deck with generic cards and add in any cards from the two archetypes you've selected.
If you have trouble making your 40-card deck even using cards from two archetypes and generic cards, then you can add cards from other archetypes. But if you must do this, you should try to avoid playing them because your avatar will take 2 damage for each one you play!
Be sure to click the "Ready" button once you have completed your deck. If you do not click this button within the time limit, the game will create a deck for you from your available cards, but it likely won't be as good as the one you build yourself.
You may modify your deck between rounds in a Draft Tournament. You can do this by selecting the Deck Builder using the Navigator. Please note that you cannot return to the normal Deck Builder until the tournament has concluded or you have dropped from the tournament.
