When you play a card that has a white background behind its title and game text, your avatar will gain an amount of light faction equal to that card's cost. When your avatar gets 10 light faction, he or she becomes light. You then get bonus game text marked with the light icon. Whenever you play a shadow card after your avatar has become light, you'll take 2 damage.
